{"id":830,"date":"2009-10-08T10:15:45","date_gmt":"2009-10-08T10:15:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.n5hrk.com\/blog\/?p=830"},"modified":"2018-08-30T16:10:15","modified_gmt":"2018-08-30T21:10:15","slug":"70-something-stires-trike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.n5hrk.com\/blog\/mega-squirt-efi\/vw-trike\/70-something-stires-trike\/","title":{"rendered":"70-something Stires Trike"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content\">\n<p>I found and purchased my VW trike even while I was working on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.n5hrk.com\/blog\/category\/mega-squirt-efi\/xj550\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Buzz <\/a>so perhaps needless to say, I am planning to &#8216;squirt it, too.<\/p>\n<p>As is wise in such endeavors, I have been gathering some parts that will be needed for it.<\/p>\n<p>I have the in-tank fuel pump from a Ninja 650 motorcycle. I think it will be easy to put it in the existing tank which is basically a welded up cube.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.n5hrk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Photo_070208_001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2051\" src=\"http:\/\/www.n5hrk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Photo_070208_001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"799\" height=\"638\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.n5hrk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Photo_070208_001.jpg 799w, http:\/\/www.n5hrk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Photo_070208_001-300x240.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.n5hrk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Photo_070208_001-768x613.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 799px) 100vw, 799px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I am slightly concerned that the sump may hang down low enough to drag, but there is room to move the tank up on its mounts, too.<\/p>\n<p>I have a set of thottle bodies that were supposedly from a KFX450, but appear instead to be from a Ninja 650 or maybe a Versys. The throats of this set of throttle bodies are set at 75mm between centers, which corresponds to the spacing on several Weber and Delorto carburetors that are popular on VW engines, so it should be pretty easy to adapt them to readily available <a class=\"postlink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cbperformance.com\/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=3238\">manifolds<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.n5hrk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/24b5_1-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2049\" src=\"http:\/\/www.n5hrk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/24b5_1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.n5hrk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/24b5_1-1.jpg 400w, http:\/\/www.n5hrk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/24b5_1-1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The EDIS ignition I got for Buzz could not rev as high as Buzz&#8217;s engine, but will work perfectly for the relatively low reving aircooled VW engine. There is ample precedent for adapting trigger wheels from various Ford engines to the crank pulley on the VW.<\/p>\n<p>I will probably borrow the WB O2 system off Buzz, probably temporarily, but maybe permanently.<\/p>\n<p>After those items, the biggest thing left is the controller itself.
